Acushnet & Rochester, MA
The town of Acushnet was originally an agriculture community. She embraced the headwaters of the Acushnet River as a power supply source and provided a home for various industries. Through the 1800s, the town was the site of water-powered factories and boat yards. In the 1990s, the town hosted construction, manufacturing, agriculture and aquaculture industries. She is a quiet town with little more than 10,000 residents in the 19 square mile community. Residents take great pride in the town's winding roads, openness, and feeling of family. The annual fall apple/peach festival is when Acushnet growers, artisans and the Historical Society welcome visitors from far and wide.
Acushnet is the original home to Titleist which is best known for its Titleist golf balls. Titleist also produces clubs and other equipment, apparel and accessories under the brands FootJoy and Pinnacle.
Achusnet's neighbor is Rochester, a community of 36 square miles with fewer than 6000 residents. Incorporated in 1686, Rochester included the towns now known as Mattapoisett and Marion. Up until the 1850s, her main industries were shipbuilding and the whaling trade until Marion and Mattapoisett became their own towns, thus land locking Rochester. Since that time, Rochester is mostly a rural, residential community with some thriving farms in town.
Acushnet and Rochester are great towns for residents and visitors to enjoy farms and slow rides in the countryside. Summer through the fall is a particularly busy time for these communities. Local farms boast pick your own blueberries, strawberries and apples and the summer farm stands turn to fall farm stands that include hay rides to find the perfect pumpkin to carve.
