Sam Patch, the Famous Jumper by Paul E. Johnson: Sam Patch grew up in Pawtucket in the 1820's as a mill hand in the textile industry. He made a name for himself when he jumped 70' into the tumultuous waters below Pawtucket Falls. In 1827 he repeated the same stunt in Patterson, N.J. and again in front of an even larger crowd in 1829 at Niagara Falls. The daredevil from Pawtucket had earned himself the nickname of the 'Jersey Jumper'.
Pawtucket Red Sox, Rhode Island (Images of Sports Series) by David Borges: The Pawtucket Red Sox are one of the most successful minor league baseball franchises in the country. This book examines the history of the team as well as defining moments such as the 1977 International League Championship and the longest game in professional baseball history in 1981 that lasted 33 innings, 8 hours and 25 minutes. Carlton Fisk, Wade Boggs, Roger Clemens, Mo Vaughn and Normar Garciaparra were Pawtucket Red Sox players before they became Boston Red Sox players.
The Christ Child Goes to Court by Wayne Swanson: In December 1981, the American Civil Liberties Union challenged the Nativity scene in the Christmas display put on by the city of Pawtucket and a controversy erupted. This book traces the judicial history of a landmark case that lasted 2 years and explores the implications for future issues between religion and government.
