Bristol is situated on a peninsula with Narragansett Bay on its west and Mount Hope Bay on its east. The town has an area of about 20 square miles pretty equally divided by land and water. Bristol's harbor is home to over 800 boat moorings and the major industries include boat building and related marine industries, manufacturing and tourism. Sailing and shipbuilding have played an important role in the life of Bristol since the 17th century. It is home to Herreshoff Manufacturing Company (HMC), well known for producing superb sailing and power vessels among which are eight America's Cup Defenders. The Herreshoff Marine Museum is a maritime museum dedicated to the history of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company, yachting, and the America's Cup. It includes a mansion, with a nearly 10 acre lawn and over 300 species of plants in its arboretum and gardens, including both native and exotic species.

Bristol holds the distinction of having the oldest Fourth of July Celebration in America. The Celebration, first held in 1785, was started by Bristolians who actually took part in the Revolutionary War. Bristol's original enthusiasm in celebrating Independence Day was nurtured by extreme hardships suffered during the Revolution. This dedication continues today as Bristol becomes arguably the most patriotic town in America during the three-week Celebration which culminates in the gala Parade on Independence Day and is eagerly watched by over 200,000 people.

Locals and visitors come to enjoy Bristol's history and parks, stroll along its waterfront, shop in its many stores, browse art galleries and enjoy many locally owned and operated restaurants. Bristol's tiny neighbor to the north is Warren. Founded in 1668, Warren is less than 9 square miles and part of the vibrant east bay bike path.

Warren boasts a vibrant arts district, a walkable downtown village and a historic working waterfront. Noted in Rhode Island Monthly magazine as an up and coming area of Rhode Island with a 'medley of shops- something for every taste, style and budget.'
