Allen's Pond consists of 611 acres of beach, fields, woodlands, ponds and marsh land, with seven miles of trails offering ocean and pond views from various vantage points and afford visitors a full day of hiking and bird watching.
More than 300 species of birds have been spotted at Allen's Pond including piping plovers, who nest on the beach.
Visitors are treated to an historic 1860s-era stone barn that holds seasonal events and science programs. Rare butterflies are often spotted in the gardens and toads and frogs croak away in several vernal pools.
The Sanctuary was created by a group of generous families with land conservation in mind, and is currently run by the Mass Audobon Society.
